The 24 hectares in
vines surround the winery in one contiguous estate, which in turn is surrounded
by an arena of hills which offer us a unique micro-climate that protects
us from frost and hail. The clay and calcareous hillsides, poor in humus,
permeable and rocky, the exuberant Mediterranean climate with concentrated
precipitation, the mistral and of course the sun, are all very favourable
conditions for the growing of vines to make high quality wines. This is
hardly surprising as this is the oldest wine region of France and there
are records of Le Grand Cros going back to the XVII century.

We have several ranges:
our “Nectar” range is destined for ageing and we go after
concentration much more than for the others. The white is made from Semillon
that is fermented and aged in oak barrels for 4 months and the red is
made from Cabernet Sauvignon also aged in oak barrels but for 1 year.
We also hope to launch our first Nectar rosé in 2006.
Our “Esprit de Provence” range exists in all 3 colours
and represents the majority of our production. The red is made from a
blend of mostly Syrah with a little Carignan. It presents a deep colour,
a complex nose of ripe fruit and a very balanced mouth, both powerful
and rounded with well-woven tannins. The rosé is made from Grenache which
brings fruit and texture, Cinsault which provides it with finesse and
Syrah which offers structure and complexity. The white is constituted
of Rolle which provides an unusually good balance between aromatic intensity
and finesse. We also produce 2 varietals: the Chardonnay which is fermented
and raised on its lies, gains in richness and complexity. The Carignan
which is an old traditional variety has recently begun to come back into
fashion and we have experimented with different techniques to find out
how to get the most out of it. We have produced quite a complex yet elegant
red from it.
“La Maîtresse” is a sparkling brut rosé made in the traditional
method with 9 months on its lies. It is made from grapes we specifically
selected on our estate for this type of wine and it will surprise you
with its fruit and finesse.
The “jules” range is made from a selection of plots from
our estate as well as carefully selected plots on a neighbour’s estate.
With this range we wanted create a different style and typicity that we
encourage you to discover: the rosé is characterised by a fuller body
and offers simple and immediate pleasure. The red begs to be enjoyed right
away thanks to its round and fruity character.
We believe that the wines from the Grand Cros stand out thanks to their
quality, originality and thanks to our wide varied range, we hope you
will agree that we have achieved what we set out to which is to unleash
the full potential of our terroir. |
